Retinal Doctors, Low Vision Optometrists & SIGHTLINE

At SIGHTLINE, we are strongly committed to the widespread belief that optimal treatment for those suffering from low vision impairments demands a multidisciplinary approach. All patients should be examined by a Retinal Specialist at least once per year. If a patient comes to SIGHTLINE and has not seen a Retinal MD, we strongly recommend an examination. We also frequently refer patients to Retinal MDs, who believe in the multidisciplinary model.

In 50% of the cases we treat, it is also clear that the patient would likely benefit from a refraction and reconsideration of optical devices. Once a patient begins o master eccentric viewing and learns to use proper lighting and ergonomics, new options for assistive devices often arise. We frequently refer patients to low vision optometrists and always defer to the wishes of the Retinal MD who initially referred the patient to us.

The integration of medical oversight by the retinal surgeon, optimal use of assistive devices and comprehensive vision rehabilitation in the home will give every low vision patient the best possible chance for improving functionality and quality of life.
