SIGHTLINE is a comprehensive vision rehabilitation program for adults with vision impairments including Age-related Macular Degeneration (AMD),
Retinitis Pigmentosa, Diabetic Retinopathy, Glaucoma and Hemianopsia. These impairments are referred to as LOW VISION.
SIGHTLINE has two objectives. The first is to train the low vision patient to see in a different way by using eccentric viewing techniques to
compensate for macular degeneration. The second objective is to educate the patient in the importance of ergonomics when performing activities of daily living
and to physically adapt the home environment to maximize visual functionality.
SIGHTLINE conforms directly to the guidelines set forth by the American Academy of Ophthalmology in its SMARTSIGHTtm model for Vision
Rehabilitation for Adults (http://www.aao.smartsight). The SMARTSIGHTtm three-level model defines the Academy's recommended protocols for treating those who suffer
from low vision impairments.
Further, SIGHTLINE has been reviewed, refined and endorsed by Dr. Donald C. Fletcher, the leading low vision ophthalmologist in the US and former
chairman of the AAO Low Vision Committee. Dr. Fletcher's credentials can be found on this web site.
